About the project
MEDUSA develops a Manufacturing as a Service (MaaS) framework that democratises access to manufacturing capabilities across Europe. By integrating AI-driven decision support, secure decentralised data exchange, and IEC 61499-based automation engineering, the project makes on-demand manufacturing accessible and efficient for businesses of all sizes — from large enterprises to SMEs.
Key objectives
- Develop an AI-driven decision support platform for production outsourcing decisions
- Enable secure, decentralised data exchange between manufacturing partners using IPFS and blockchain
- Build an Automation Engineering Platform grounded in the IEC 61499 standard
- Support sustainable and circular manufacturing practices aligned with EU guidelines

Flexbridge leads the Automation Engineering Platform pillar, providing IEC 61499-based tooling and deep expertise that enables modular, reconfigurable manufacturing control within the broader MaaS framework.
